*6. TRAUMA INFORMED TEACHER - 10 POINTS*

Answer the following questions with at least two sentences:

Attachment disorder can be caused in different ways. Here’s a few examples of things that can cause attachment disorder:

- A child is transferred from foster home to foster home with multiple short term relationships. None of them are stable and the child learns that an attachment will be broken.

- A parent sexually, physically or verbally abuses their child leading to broken attachments and basic needs not met.

As a teacher, you need to be watching for students that might have attachment disorder. Here are a few examples of how you might identify attachment disorder:

- Students are Hot and Cold. You feel like the student likes you and friendship is close. The next day, the student pushes you away and treats you cold. They may do this because relationships that get too close may remind them of other close relationships that hurt them. They might be protecting their emotions. They are afraid to love someone.

- Students are Developmentally Challenged. Children with attachment disorder may have had difficulty emotionally developing and act younger than their age. You may have a student that you think, wow, they are acting immature for how old they are.

- Student Prefers Strangers. They may be affectionate and prefer relationships with strangers over people they know. They may meet someone new in your class and treat them like their best friend. New people are not threatening because there is not an emotional connection. They don’t have anything to lose with a stranger

Can you describe one other way that attachment disorder can be caused in a child?

Another way attachment disorder can develop is through severe emotional neglect or inconsistent caregiving in early childhood.

Attachment disorder can also result from severe emotional neglect or inconsistent caregiving during early childhood. When a child’s emotional needs for love, comfort, and support are repeatedly unmet, they may struggle to build secure relationships and begin to see caregivers as unreliable.
